What is "Close-Up Magic" anyway?

What: Close-Up magic - also known as “Table-hopping”, “Strolling”, “Mix and Mingle”, “Micromagic” and “Walkaround” magic - uses a variety of everyday items such as coins, paper, elastic bands, objects from spectator’s pockets and, of course, playing cards. The magician will usually work from his/her pockets.

When: As this style is hugely versatile, Close-Up magicians can entertain your guests either standing or working at a table, before, during, or after your event. Quiet periods, for example, at a wedding when the official photos are being taken, can be eliminated by having the magician act as entertainer and ice-breaker.  Close-Up magicians are becoming very popular at balls and banquets, entertaining guests as they arrive and later in the event, between courses and after the meal.

How: I wander from guest-to-guest, group-to-group, or table-to-table, introduce myself, entertaining where requested and respecting the wishes of those who prefer privacy/non-participation. This style of magic is highly interactive, with the magician involving spectators - the magic often takes place in their hands.

“Bruce did a fantastic job entertaining our guests at our exclusive Gala Dinner, and went above and beyond to accommodate everyone by the end of the evening. He displayed a vast variety of tricks and illusions that kept the people in awe, and showed an enthusiastic and reliable personality that worked perfectly with our environment. I would thoroughly recommend him for future events.”
